Do Work

Come one and all and gather around

To hear a tale of glory,

Not a yarn of knights of old,

No…this is a football story.

A group of boys once made some noise

Lifting in the early morn

And amidst the effort and the sweat

A powerful idea was born.

They vowed their greatest effort

Swore no duty would they shirk,

As they capped off every session,

With a simple cry…DO WORK!

At last came the time to put to the test

All their strategy and strength

They faced each challenge bravely

And saw it to its length.

With the regular season over

Battle-tested they did lurk,

From the shadows of the playoffs

Came the simple cry…DO WORK!

A gutty crew from Salem

Challenged their Mustang Might,

But the boys soon let the Cougars know,

That this was not their night!

Then came the region final match-up

For which they’d all been praying,

And what great tale would be complete,

Without a…Dragon Slaying!

From the south with challenge bold,

The Cavaliers came crashing,

The boys weathered their furious storm,

And gave them a thorough thrashing!

Now at the dome for the title game

The Tigers, a worthy foe,

Met the Mustangs force to force

And matched them blow for blow

But in the midst of battle

Rising from the mirk,

The Mustangs rallied for the win,

With the simple cry…DO WORK!

This tale is not of scores or statistics

Or calls made or plays run,

The true measure of this team and year

Is in the total of WORK DONE!
