Classroom Procedures for Mr. Snethen's Classes

Daily Procedures

Bell Behavior

In order to get the most out of the class period, get to class ON TIME.  The starters are graded, so the time will be well spent.  We’ll have daily assignments and continuing projects that will require work right up to the dismissal bell.  There will be no need to congregate by the door before the bell rings.

Starter Activities

We’ll begin each day with a starter activity.  Instructions will be on the board, on the lesson plans page, or given verbally.  Begin working right away.  Attendance will be taken during the starter--when the bell rings. Don’t be tardy.

Leaving Class

Passes will be presented to the teacher at the beginning of class--remember to get advanced make up slips so that the homework doesn’t pile up.

Bathroom/water breaks are only allowed for emergencies or during individual work times.  Use the facilities close by (hallway by the art room/junior lockers)…extended trips will lead to NO trips.  ONE PERSON IN THE HALLWAY AT A TIME

Music Players/Headphones/iPads/Readers

To limit distractions and to maintain school policy, ear-buds and headphones will be kept off and out of sight during class tests, instruction, discussions, and lectures. They can be used during reading and individual work time, if kept at a low volume.  iPods, Kindles, and iPads are wonderful tools.  However, they become a distraction if they interrupt our attention to the subject matter and are not being used for instructional purposes.  Binge your NETFLIX at home.  The instructor will keep any devices used/heard in class until the end of the school day.

Phones

Unless authorized by the instructor, phones have no purpose in this classroom during the school day.  Therefore, phones will be kept silent and out of sight.  Tri-Valley school policy will be enforced.

Water Bottles

Since water doesn’t stain the carpet, it will be the ONLY beverage allowed in class.  Water bottles will be allowed in class as long as the water remains a beverage and not a projectile. Fill them BEFORE the 2nd bell rings.

Gum and Candy

Gum will be unseen and unheard, or it will be thrown away.  Candy and other foods will be eaten elsewhere.  Keep the classroom clean.

Textbooks

Textbooks will generally be required everyday.  Reading will be assigned to reinforce the material covered in class.  Our books will be a very important part of our class work.  Take proper care of them--book covers will be made available.

Homework

Lesson Plans are updated daily...check my school website. We will have something to do everyday.  It may be a specific assignment, continued work on a project, or assigned reading.  Homework will be graded.  Be sure that it is done neatly and signed, so it will get full credit. All work MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE PERSON to whom it was assigned.  Points (10%) will be deducted daily for late homework, until they are gone.  Turn in late work, regardless of the grade. “Some points” are better than “no points”.

Grading

Our grading scale is posted behind the teacher’s desk.  Tests, written work, and projects will be the highest percentage of the grades.  Extra credit will be part of our tests and quizzes, and will not involve any extra work.  Grades will be weighted as follows:

--Test/Quiz = 40% of the grade

--Project/Writing Activity = 30% of the grade

--Homework/Worksheets = 20% of the grade

--Daily Starters & Participation = 10% of the grade

Chromebooks

The Tri-Valley acceptable use policy will be the guideline for all computer applications in this class.  We will use our Chromebooks daily for class and for homework. We'll also take tests online.  Be sure to take care of it and always have it for class.
